Something wicked this way comes.
Netflix released the first two official photos from “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” its “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” reboot due Oct. 26 that promises to be much darker than the original 1990s comedy series starring Melissa Joan Hart.
The new series “finds Sabrina wrestling to reconcile her dual nature – half-witch, half-mortal – while standing against the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit.”
It’s based on the origin story comic book and is written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who also produces “Riverdale,” another darker revival of an old comic-book favorite.
“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” stars “Mad Men” alum Kiernan Shipka in the titular role, with Lucy Davis (BBC’s “The Office”) and Miranda Otto (“Lord of the Rings”) as her witch aunts, Hilda and Zelda Spellman. Other cast members include Richard Coyle (“The Collection”), who plays high priest Father Blackwood and Ross Lynch (“Austin and Ally”) as Sabrina’s boyfriend Harvey.
And don’t worry: Salem, everyone’s favorite snarky cat, is slated to make an appearance as well. No word yet on any new plans for world domination.
