Breaking News – U.S. Deployed Advanced Strike Group, USS Carl Vinson, To South China Sea
United States deployed USS Carl Vinson Strike Group to Western Pacific for an operational construct, COM Third Fleet Forward, under the U.S Third Fleet command and control. The strike group included the Nimitz-class aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70), Carrier Air Win 2 and embarked Destroyer Squadron 2, including the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyers USS Micheal Murphy (DDG 112) and USS Wayne E. Meyer (DDG 108), deployed with Ticonderoga class guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG 57).
The powerful battle group is expected to arrive in South China Sea water around January 20th, just on time for the President Elected Donald J. Trump inauguration. This deployment shows that the Pentagon, and US Navy wants to extend Obama’s Asia-Pacific rebalancing strategy. It also reflect Trump administration to counter China power with new military capabilities. Trump planned to strengthen military deployment in the West Pacific including nearly 75 new ships for the Navy, and push the rebalancing onto a new stage with more routine freedom of navigation and deploy more offensive and defensive weapon to the region. It’s expected that at least 60 percent of the US overseas forces will be put into the Asia-Pacific region.
The COM Third Fleet Forward operation construct will combine power of the 7th and 3rd Fleet to form the biggest modern military power in the world. The initiative was announced on June 2016 under Obama administration.
